How to Show Love to Yourself Daily

I believe people think, to show love to oneself is such a hardship and you need to do performative things in order to accomplish this. This could not be further from the truth.

As someone who battles through low mood, I have had to push myself to love myself in ways I’ve never done before. And they can be the smallest of gestures.

Here’s some things I do to show love to myself daily:

1. I simply pray. This reminds me that there is someone greater, more powerful and faithful who loves me. Spending time with God is the most powerful thing. It grounds me, guides me and comforts me.

2. I wash my face and brush my teeth. Nothing gets me feeling more ready for the day than making sure I have fresh breath and a clean face. It makes a difference trust me.

3. I feed myself. My body is a temple and it needs fuel to do all the things I take for granted too often. It also makes you feel better, less sluggish and gives you more energy to do things e.g continue living.

4. I allow myself to be happy, sad and cry when I need to. Actually feeling my feelings is still new for me, but as each opportunity arises, I don’t distract from my feelings, I take the time to feel and work through them. This just enables me to be a better functioning person emotionally.

5. I have quiet time. I am an introvert, which means after socialising I feel super drained and that’s when I retreat back into my shell, put my phone on do not disturb and spend time with myself. I need to recharge to be the fun, bubbly person most people know me to be. And not answering your phone sometimes? Perfectly fine. Last I checked, I’m the one paying my bill 😁

6. I remember the little things. The little things such as being able to see, smell, taste, feel and hear. The fact that I am breathing today and I am fully provided for. Seeing God’s Grace in the little things, reminds me I still have a lot to be thankful for.

Don’t get me wrong, loving myself isn’t always easy. I am still working hard on this, but as each day passes I am getting better at it.

How are you showing love to yourself daily?
