Why I Prefer Working from Home

No bras for one!!!

Now it goes without saying that this current lockdown is a pile of manure, however, I have managed to find many a perk. Care to lean in?

1. Your girl does not have to wear a bra. I repeat: your girl does not have to wear a bra! I mean can I hear it for the women who’s first thought is – once they get home – to take their bra clean off? Can I get an Amen? That feeling is incomparable. Also, I don’t wish to hear about how gravity will take it’s course (I have had zero complaints *wink*).
2. We get more sleep! I used to have to wake up at 5:30am to get to work for 6:50am – that should be illegal really. Especially as every couple of months or so, those early mornings would run your girl down and have me in bed by 8pm. True granny vibes. Now my alarm is set at a comfortable 6:30am with just enough time to start work at 7am – a truly underrated blessing.
3. I am in the comfort of my own home. So as well as the absence of a bra, I also no longer have to faff – literally faff – around with the “office-wear”. Paid employment has never been so comfortable. We thank God.
4. No people to tolerate. Before you judge, let me explain myself. There are just some days (I’m sure you can all relate), where you don’t necessarily “hate” humans, but – like me – you do not care for a multitude of them being in your personal space. There are just some days where the sound of someone’s breathing is akin to dragging your nails down a chalkboard. Haha! When I had those days, you would find me at my desk with my headphones in.
5. Better meals! I can make time to cook more. One of my goals was to cook more this year and I have managed to, simply because my work is flexible and I am able to work around it more.
6. Music and Podcasts. Now don’t get me wrong, in the office you can listen to music so long as you have headphones. But when working from home, I can buss out my tunes and podcasts and even a little Netflix when the mood takes me. I am able to govern over my own space how I wish and it’s truly rewarding.

Those are some of the reasons I have grown to enjoy working from home and it keeps me productive. Nonetheless, I do miss the general presence of people: wanting to take a break and going to speak to a colleague, making hot drinks with colleagues, taking a trip to the Aldi across the road when we needed – just general banter.

I pray one day we get to experience those things again, but for now your girl is gonna put on some Modern Family as she works.
