Melanin in this Skin

Do you know what it’s like to have melanin in your skin?

To be degraded and labelled as “less than”?

To be sidelined, bullied and harassed?

For some people, these are not the first things that come to mind when we think about melanated skin.

Most people will talk about the amazing food we cultivate; the awesome music we make; the way the sun quite literally kisses our skin…

That’s all well and good, but don’t forget there are two sides to every coin.

The beautiful and what some people deem “the ugly”

The praised and the revolted

The love and the hate

How lonely it can be to be so beautiful, but so resented at the same time.

I love the Melanin in my skin, you wish you could too.

I'm just a woman seeking to express herself freely without anyone's judgement and unwanted opinions. Just read and reflect. May my art be catharsis for you.
