Anyone else feel like being single in church is an almost-sin?
I swear it’s treated like a disease we need to be cured from or something.
Now I know a lot of Christians aspire to marriage, but let’s not make marriage a goal, rather a preferred part of ones journey. God created humans for relationships and I won’t lie, I would like to be married some day. Nonetheless, whilst being at church I almost felt like I was lacking because I was single. Almost as though I wasn’t enough as my own person.
I know I’m not alone in this. *looks at you all*
It’s definitely taken some time to be okay and content in my singleness, but I’m here. I even love it now. I mean, do you realise all the benefits of being single???
Here’s a list:
1. I can do what I like when I like. Who am I having to consult? Just Jesus.
2. I can be selfish in the most positive of ways.
3. I have the freedom to work on myself and love myself more
4. Not to mention the first thing people say about marriage is the fact that it’s hard. I can tell you being single is so easy for me, even preferable some days.
That’s just a few of the benefits. Not to make relationships sound like doomsday, but the church sometimes had singles feeling like marriage is the ultimate goal. To be frank, I’m much more concerned about what God wants to do through me and with my life whether I’m single or not.
There was a time when I never considered marriage and children, but over the past few years I’ve warmed to the idea of it.
My main focus is my purpose and living each day the best way I can. If I get married and pop out a couple kids (twins hopefully) then that would be great; if not, my life will still be as fulfilled as ever.
Loving the chapter of your life you are presently in is one of the best gifts one can give themselves.
